Bombo Pentecostal Church has been in existence since 17th October 1998, when it started with 30 people, and has now grown into a dynamic spirit-filled church of approximately 500 people.

Our Vision:
We dream of a church and a community where: -
§ Jesus Christ is exalted above religion and all other gods.
§ Jesus Christ is exalted above ungodly cultures and traditions of men, such as witchcraft.
§ Jesus Christ is exalted above sinful pleasures such as sexual immorality and drunkenness.
§ Jesus Christ is exalted above status, position, and power.
§ Jesus Christ is exalted above honored and revered personalities.
In a nutshell, we are here: -

“TO SEE JESUS CHRIST EXALTED ABOVE EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE ELSE.’

As Jesus Christ is exalted, we envision a church and community where: -
§ Moral Biblical values are upheld.
§ Hurting people can find love and care.
§ Hope is restored to hopeless situations.
§ The sick and diseased can find healing.
§ Families are Godly, united, and living in love.
§ We reach our community, nation, and world with the Gospel and love of Jesus Christ.
Therefore, our mission is as follows: -

Our Mission (Action statement)

“TO ADVANCE THE KINGDOM OF GOD UNTIL CHRIST FILLS THE CHURCH, THE COMMUNITY, THE NATION, TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH, CAUSING HIM ALONE TO REIGN AS KING.”

Our Mission begins with the Church. In order to realize our vision, we as the church need to be the salt and light of the world. This implies that Jesus Christ should be exalted above everything and everyone else in our own lives first, and then advanced from us to the world.”

We initially have five strategies that we are using to advance our Mission and pursue our Vision
1. Organizational and Leadership Structure.
We have organized the Church ministries into five departments; Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Service, and Evangelism.

Each department has a mission statement. For example:
Worship Dept.’s Mission is “To help the church lift Jesus Christ in true and skillful worship through music and performing arts, causing lives to be drawn closer to God.”

Fellowship dept. “ To organize the Church into various interest groups through which God’s love can be expressed and experienced by sharing, caring and meeting one another’s needs”

Each department has ministries through which it works.

2. Leadership Training
Lack of Leaders has been our greatest impediment. We are committed to continually training and developing leaders who will carry out the mission of the church. We have now trained and graduated about 40 leaders using the John Maxwell’s “Equip” Leadership training manuals. We will be using the departments to continue to draw more people for the training.
The training was so attractive that it even non-Christians were drawn to it. Millie and I now also provide the same free training to students in a nearby University.

3. Inter-department ministries -strategy.
Each department aims at extending its services to the other departments, e.g. the evangelism department’s mission statement is “To train and equip every believer to be a witness for Christ and to make evangelism a way of life”. Their primary task is to ensure that leaders, ministers, and members in all other departments are trained, equipped, and participating in evangelism. Each dept. therefore works at systematically infusing their ministry into all the other depts.

4. Data base
We are building a bio data base for the Church so that we can monitor the progress of our Christians and identify their areas of need.

5. Rigorous and prompt evaluations.
I am glad to say that now we are more ably handling whatever ministry we have our hands upon. The next update will focus on what we are doing and how God is blessing our work.
We will also give you profiles on various people that we think would be of interest to you.

About Bombo

Bombo is the cradle of Islam in Uganda. The predominant tribe living is Bombo is called Nubi and the people are called Nubians. They originate from Southern Sudan. There is a common saying among the Nubians that “one cannot be a Nubian and not be a Moslem”. The Moslem question is not one that the Church can ignore.
We have seen only two Nubians and many non-Nubian Moslems convert to Christianity. One of the Nubian converts was persecuted till he had to leave Bombo, while the other reverted back to Islam. This year we have heightened our effort to evangelize among the Moslems. Specific prayer and fasting is being done to break the spirits of Islam over Bombo. We are organizing ourselves to pray 5 times a day just like they do, however, we will be praying for their souls and for the love of Jesus to reach them. We also have carried out some training on Moslem evangelism. The church is also planning to rent a house for Yasin (the guy in the story below) in a Moslem dominated area which will be our “prayer altar”. There we will pray, claiming that area for Jesus. Below are stories of two members in our congregation that converted from Islam to Christianity. They are just examples of several others.

Please partner with us in prayer for the Moslem, and especially Nubian community.
